Sundays are typically so quiet in the video game world that you can hear a pin drop. That’s why it was so unusual that such a huge news story emerged on a typically dead day. Activision and Vivendi revealed to the public that a merger has taken place and they will be now known as Activision Blizzard. The result is 'Activision Blizzard' (as they are now known) is the world's largest and most profitable video game publisher. Financially the deal is worth $18.9 billion. It means that franchises like Guitar Hero, Call of Duty, Tony Hawk, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro as well as Blizzard’s huge series Startcraft, Diablo and World of Warcraft are all under one roof.

Rene Penisson, a member of the management board of Vivendi and current Chairman of Vivendi Games said:

"We are very confident that by combining forces, Activision Blizzard will set the highest standards in quality, reputation and profitability, and will bring together the best creative teams in the industry. The combination of this unique product portfolio with highly professional employees gives us great confidence in the growth prospects for Activision Blizzard."
