Last year was one of the best years for gaming in living memory, especially for some of our younger readers. 2007 will be remembered as a year of fun and excitement and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas was a game which gave us an abundance of the above adjectives. So with 2008 four months old and Ubisoft with its recently acquired Tom Clancy Licence exclusivity, they’ve come back to risk it all. This time round have Ubisoft put all their money on another spin of the roulette wheel, striking it lucky twice in a row or are Ubisoft heading to the free buffet to gorge on food and later pick up a cheap hooker? When I found out I was reviewing a darts game on the Wii I was over the moon. I couldn’t wait to see what Oxygen Games had done with the Wiimote to simulate throwing a dart, and of course, to see what they replaced all the beer drinking with! Darts and Wii seemed like a match made in heaven, just like cheese and cake, but just like the latter; PDC World Championship Darts 2008 gets sickening after a few minutes. Sins of a Solar Empire is a title that was so under-marketed that it was released with no interest or hype. It is a title which will make you feel fuzzy inside knowing that there are still smaller developer studios that are making great games. We’re not talking casual flash games or cheap puzzle games but fully fledged titles with hours of gameplay within them. Sins of a Solar Empire (which we’ll shorten to Sins) is a title that gives any big-budget game an intense run for its money and puts the big studios to shame. Ironclad games have not only released the title but supported it from day one, bringing regular content updates, patches and tweaks as well as keeping the gaming public informed in how their time is being spent. It makes the gamer feel wanted, cared for and valued and it’s definitely a dying breed in the industry. Sins has been out for a month now (and only available via digital download for UK gamers) so most of you will know it’s good and it won’t be a surprise to you that we to believe it’s worthy of a high score, but why exactly is that the case? Imagine Churchill died in 1931. World War II still happened but without the gutsy, legendary icon of Churchill behind the British fight back, the United Kingdom fell to the Nazis in 1940 and in 1953 the Third Reich invaded the US. Turning Point: Fall of Liberty places you at the exact point in that alternate future and poses the question of what if the above occurred. Spark Unlimited, the guys behind Call of Duty: Finest Hour return after four years of developer silence with Turning Point and wish to offer an alternate look into the past. The question posed; does Turning Point turn heads or does it surrender to the bargain bin? Be first to comment this article |

With the release of Grand Theft Auto less than a month away, most gamers will be clawing at Rockstar’s doors in anticipation. It’s set to be the biggest game of 2008 and we’re only approaching April. So understandably, we should be excused if we’re not thinking of any other games. When Hurry up Hedgehog landed on our doorstep it didn’t have the effect that undeniably GTAIV will subsequently have. While GTAIV will be steeped in controversy and the expectant media spotlight, many smaller titles will crawl under the radar, especially games like Hurry Up Hedgehog. After all, the title seems unlikely to get your heart pumping or your palms sweaty and will sure as stone avoid any cries of tougher ratings on games. Hurry Up Hedgehog is definitely one for the family, a blend of easy to pick up gameplay and addiction heavy puzzling, but will you say ‘Hurry Up Hedgehog’ or ‘Hurry up GTAIV?” Be first to comment this article |
