 “It's notoriously difficult to review an MMORPG.” “Online Role Playing games are always changing.” “The comparison to a certain Blizzard game is unavoidable.” It's time to throw these cliches out the window and focus on Age of Conan. Funcom have spent five years adapting Robert E. Howard's novels to video game form. Not to be mistaken with the hack-and-slash God of War clone by the name of Conan, Funcom's RPG aims for a larger scope. Gone are the Orcs and Elves of fantasy realms and in are big-breasted women, fierce gory combat and a Mature rating. This is Online Role Playing for the adult. Age of Conan is out on PC, with an Xbox 360 version arriving in due course. It sold a million units in a week, making it one of the most successful PC games of all time. We're judging Age of Conan; at this point in time, in its current state and making ourselves deliberately oblivious to the competition. When looking at the video games industry, it’s easy to say that Atari have lasted so long because of their established franchises. They have built a history for both their company and their games. The beloved Alone in the Dark is one such series. It is a game that started life on the PC and was quickly known for helping start the Survival Horror genre. The series has seen a decent amount of sequels, but in its latest return a whole fresh start is on the cards. Comments (3) |

We said it was coming and we don’t disappoint. This is the first, of hopefully many, video reviews. The biggest releases will be reviewed in the below format. Before you start criticising the voice work, yours truly did it. Since we've put this together, we’ve hired a talented individual to do the voice over in the future. (Ed - If I'm being low brow, yes I know I suck). The next video review will be Bad Company, with a bit more gusto. Enjoy. Bioware stand above most. They've got thirteen years of creating games, franchises and graphic engines. You only have to mutter names like Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, MDK2 and Shattered Steel to start RPG fans salivating. They're renowned, revered and respected. Mass Effect was their 2007 foray into the Sci-Fiction and it was released to critical acclaim on Xbox 360. PC owners had to wait patiently until May 2008 to finally dip their toes into Mass Effect's waters. The Xbox 360 reviews were seeping of praise, so there's no doubt that Mass Effect on the PC would be a success, especially when you factor in seven extra months of development and the versatility of the PC itself. We're going to be blunt. If you've played the 360 version, sell it now and buy the PC version. It's equivalent to the prodigal child and we're welcoming it with open arms. If the marketing for Dragonball Z: Burst Limit was anything to go by, then you’d be let off for ignoring it. Minimal gameplay shown and a rudimentary attempt at humour barely shouts “Buy me!” Therefore, Dragonball Z: Burst Limit was a rare example of where we approached a game with little expectation. Following the customary research, the findings show that, the first Dragonball title to reach the current crop of consoles was developed by the Japanese studio Dimps. They’re a group of talented individuals with games like Street Fighter IV (co-developed for arcades), Dragonball Z: Budokai 1 and 2 and the Sonic Rush series under their belts. They’re experienced in both the genre, and in fan-centric games. As the television show commands a huge following, there is a lot riding on Burst Limit.
