In a follow up interview with Gamesutra, Blizzard's COO Paul Sams called for Microsoft to put “more emphasis on the Windows Operating System”. At the Paris GDC a few days ago, Blizzard’s Rob Pardo commented that Microsoft currently “have a bit of lip service with PC gaming.” When asked about this, Sams reiterated their views:

“Well, their gaming focus is very much on the [Xbox] 360. And that makes sense, cause they’re a hardware manufacturer as well as a software developer. And so they’ve got a lot of money and investment tied up in that system. And they own and operate that system, so having them put more energy and effort against it – and they would say that they are, but I think that there’s more that can be done.”

Anyone arguing that PC Gaming is on the brink may need to rethink their views. Funcom and Eidos revealed sales for their hit MMORPG, Age of Conan. The game has a staggering 700,000 accounts and is shadowed only by one other rival games; World of Warcraft, which totes around 9 million. Morton Larseen seems pleased stating:

“With more than 700,000 accounts created so far we have a fantastic platform to build from, and we will continue our marketing spending to further driver numbers in the months to come. It also means that Funcom can dedicate significant development resources on evolving the game even further, naturally giving us a great hope for the future of Age of Conan.”
