Written by Marco Fiori
Tuesday, 01 April 2008

Last week Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 stormed into the charts grabbing the top spot. This week it’s battled away hopeful contenders and kept the pole position. Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games is number two again and Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 jumps to third thanks to the release of the Nintendo Wii version. SEGA’s Viking : Battle for Asgard enters at seven and Army of Two drops five places to number ten. The House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return joins in at fourteenth and God of War: Chains of Olympus on PSP revels in the eighteenth spot. That’s all from the charts, thanks ELSPA.

News - EA Bids for Take-Two Again

We sometimes forget that development studios / publishers are actually businesses first and foremost. Following on from EA’s bid for GTAIV publisher Take-Two earlier this month is yet again another bid, this time at $26 a share. Take-Two rejected the offer and released a press release stating;

“EA’s Offer price is inadequate and substantially undervalues the Company. The Board of Directors has determined that the EA Offer price is inadequate and substantially undervalues the Company’s established position in the position in the interactive entertainment software market, robust and enviable stable of game franchises, extensive portfolio of owned intellectual property, creative talent, strong consumer loyalty and a growing sports business.”

If we translate that to layman’s terms, it practically means to go away, that’s too cheap.

There isn’t much surprise this week in the charts as Rainbow Six Vegas 2 jumps to the top spot in its first week. Below it sits Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games and below that the double Activision treats of Call of Duty 4 and Guitar Hero 3. Army of Two drops from 2nd to 8th and Wii Play enters the charts at 7th. Bully: Scholarship Edition plummets from 3rd to 12th and The Simpsons Game / Assassin’s Creed re-enters the charts at 14th and 16th place respectively.

There’s a fair bit of Wii news today. We’ll start with the news that Rock Band on Nintendo Wii will be released on June 22nd in the US at $170. The usual instruments apply and you’ll be able to buy individual instruments the same day. Enjoy the sleek screenshot of the white drums. The game has the standard 63 songs as well as 5 extra songs for Wii gamers. Bob Picunko, the Vice President of Electronic Games and Interactive Products at MTV said;

“The Wii’s success among casual and core gamers of all ages makes it an ideal match for the cross-generational appeal of the music featured in Rock Band.”

Still no news on a European date sadly though.
