Take Two spent no time getting their Q2 (ending April 30th) results out the door, showing off the fact that they made $539.8 million which was more than double last year’s $205.4 million. It doesn’t come as a surprise though as it tied in with the release of Grand Theft Auto IV on Xbox 360 / PS3. They released a complete breakdown of expenses and income, but we’ll spare you the tedious details. They did mention that 11 million units of GTAIV we’re shipped (with 8.5 million actually sold) and 2.2 million copies of BioShock helped to bolster the coffers.

Not to be outdone, THQ also published their Q2 results for the fiscal year which saw a net sales amount of $1,030.5 million, double that of Take Two. Even so, Brain THQ, the president of THQ stated that they weren’t happy that the targets set weren’t met and an “aggressive approach” should be in order. Again, a full breakdown was publicised, but we’ll spare you. Either way, both companies show the growth in the industry, which is at an impressive rate.

It’s got a rich world inspired by Bram Stoker’s novel, a deep story and point and click gameplay. After our review of Penny Arcade Adventures, our faith has been suitably restored. The environments are 2D yet detailed and the characters, 3D. Expect our review to appear shortly and sink your teeth into some eye candy below.

PC News - Crysis Warhead Revealed
Written by Marco Fiori
Thursday, 05 June 2008

It is news that’ll make PC gamers everywhere quiver with fear. Crysis, the notoriously power-hungry 2007 FPS is receiving its follow up in the form of Crysis Warhead. It is supposedly a “parallel story,” which will ship later this year. It’s supposedly been built on an upgraded and ‘optimised’ version of the CryEngine. Cevat Yerli, the CEO of Crytek had this to say,

We were very pleased with the reception of Crysis from both gamers and media after our launch last year. That being said, one of the key principles of our studio is to always raise the bar. With Warhead, we are focusing on refining our storytelling and game performance, while also delivering more of the visually stunning graphics and immersive free-roaming gameplay everyone loved in Crysis.”

Players will take control of Psycho from the original game and play through the story through his linked perspective. There are new details due this summer but in the meantime, read up on our Crysis review, while enjoying the packshot below.

Sony News - The Getaway and Eight Days Cancelled

Sony announced today that two of their internally developed titles are being shelved. The Getaway and Eight Days will never see the light of day on the PS3 due to a “redistribution of resources and budget.” Eight Days was originally shown at E3 2006 but its trailer was arguably pre-rendered. On the other hand, The Getaway, the next-gen version of Sony’s attempt at the GTA formula looked genuine, as shown by the screenshot below. We’re unsure as to whether they’ll resurface in the future, but Sony seemed coy;

"This decision was made following an internal review of all games and it was deemed that with the incredibly strong list of exclusive first party titles coming up both this year and in the near future, resources should be reallocated to enhance those projects closer to completion.”

1989 saw the end of communism, the destruction of thrash metal and the end of dodgy clothes. Luckily, it also saw the creation of Golden Axe, the hit hack and slash game for SEGA’s Mega Drive. Twenty years on and it’s finally being resurrected in the form of Golden Axe: Beast Rider. With higher production values, RPG elements, close combat and beast combat it’s looking tasty. We’ve got the debut trailer to watch below, so get ready to salivate. It’s due out on 360 and PS3 soon.
