David Cooke, director of the BBFC, has spoken out against those who have criticised the recommendations laid out in the Byron review.

In a press release issued earlier today, Cooke said how they were “disappointed and concerned about attempts by one or two video games publishers to pre-empt, through recent press statements, the forthcoming public consultation on video games classification.”

“It is absurd to imply that the BBFC could not cope…”

“The games industry really does have nothing to fear from a set of proposals which would provide more robust, and fully independent, decisions, and detailed content advice, for the British public, and especially parents.”

The full report, along with all the recommendations concerning videogame ratings can be seen here.

Harmonix have announced a sequel to their hard-rocking hit Rock Band, due out in September.

Gracing the Xbox 360 first, Rockband 2 will include at minimum, all of the songs that came with the first game (Which is around 300 tracks). Additionally, all of the Downloadable Content available for the first game will be instantly compatible with the sequel – so hold off on that delete button for the time-being.

The peripherals will also be compatible with the new title, however ‘upgraded’ versions will also be available, says Harmonix. More features to expect are improved online functionality, and an improved “party set-up”.

Alex Rigopulos, co-founder and CEO of Harmonix said:

"As successful as the original Rock Band continues to be, we've now had the benefit of the last eight months to listen to our fans' requests and to build upon that foundation."

"Rock Band 2 is a second-generation band game that will elevate the music game experience to the next level."

The much anticipated PS3 controller revamp has been making waves across the pond in the US.

Europe will see Dualshock3’s launch on the 2nd July 2008. Its main revision is the inclusion of vibration technology, leading to a more interactive experience. It’s a feature that has been sorely missed since the PS2 days. Vibration will be supported in future PS3 titles, as well as a selection of current titles through a firmware update.

With a retail price of £39.99, the controller will be available across Europe on the 2nd July 2008. For a peak of what you’ll be getting your hands on, check the image below.

Despite its age and the fact that it’s reached the seventh title mark, it seems that Ignition believe there’s still a market for the ‘old-school’ Metal Slug series. Number 7 is due to continue the fast paced 2D action of its predecessors. Due out on the Nintendo DS, the SNK Playmore developed title has new missions, characters, weapons, bosses and vehicles. It’s due out this autumn, but that’s as solid a release date that was given.

It's been coming all week. Blizzard have been teasing fans with a new splash page on their website which gradually let up hints that Diablo 3 is on the way. The creators of Warcraft finally confirmed it for fans. Diablo 3 is in development and it's looking great. They teased us with a minute long trailer. They then dropped 29 high resolution screenshots on us. To cap off the announcement was an 18min demonstration of gameplay footage.

Two classes and their accompanying information can be seen on the website. The combat-heavy Barbarian is a direct contrast with the magic-centric Witch Doctor. There are five in total, but they're all that Blizzard were willing to reveal. The world map shows a decent amount of exploration space, with some brief information about Caldeum and Tristram on show. We've uploaded a shot of the world map below for your viewing pleasure.
