Article - UT3: One Month On
Written by Marco Fiori

It has been four years since the last Unreal Tournament, a time-frame that is just too long. UT2004 improved upon the original Unreal Tournament in every way. It had a shiny new graphics engine, tweaked and honed multiplayer, and smarter AI bots for those who enjoyed playing offline.  As well as that it had enough players to sustain its lifetime well past its expiry date. The community thrived with custom maps, game changing mods and a bustling server list. If we fast forward to the present day and to the release of Unreal Tournament 3, nothing much has changed. UT3 has the same high-powered engine as Gears of War, it has the same tried and tested frantic gameplay and it has improved offline AI. So why is no-one playing it?

If you're one of the lucky ones who managed to get your hands on a Wii this Christmas, you may be interested in the latest downloadable updates for it. Connecting the console to the internet not only allows you to update your console but it also lets you enter the Wii Shop Channel, within which you'll find several free software downloads for a bit of extra fun. Firstly, you can upgrade the Photo Channel to version 1.1, allowing the channel to play the more versatile AAC music files instead of the limited MP3, and furthermore allows you to post a photo to the channel icon in the Wii Menu.

If you’ve stumbled across this article, then ideally you’ll need to do some background reading and read our review of Pro Evolution Soccer 2008. If time is of an essence, then all you need to know is that we gave PES2008 a 6/10 for being a shoddy, broken title. Until Konami releases a patch, the score will stand as it is; a depressingly average game. Whether or not you agree with our review, you’d have to be extremely ignorant not to acknowledge the fact that the Online Multiplayer is lag-infested and that replays are appallingly jerky. To tie in with the festive cheer, we’ve attempted to deliberate on the game’s position and quality and pluck several key positives. The results are founded in logic and are no-way a rant, but a complex argument as to why Konami has done the genre good than the obvious harm.

Article - Q&A With GameTap
Written by Marco Fiori

Most gamers have heard of Valve’s steam, but they’re not the only digital distribution company out there. GameTap, who are based in and service the US, are just as successful and established.  They offer a different, unique distribution mechanic (when compared to Steam) which includes free, ad supported games, retro console titles as well as paid for AAA titles. Their website can be found at gametap.com so be sure to check them out. They have over 1000 titles available to choose from as well as interesting articles, media and ‘gaming related shows.’

In the first of many, we sat down to talk to the giants behind the digital age and why they believe they’re onto a winner. We’ll just like to say a thank you to Wendy Rutherford of Gametap for organizing this and Ricardo Sanchez, the VP of Content and Creative Director for GameTap for taking the time to answer our questions. This is what they had to say about digital distribution.
